Abstract:

	This talk will cover the IBM BladeCenter line as well as blade
technology in general.  Blade systems are well known for packing many
systems into a small space, and for providing benefits in centralizing
resources, but what else can they do?  If you've considered deploying a
blade solution in your organization or group, bring your questions to
this month's NC*SA meeting and learn more from the market leader!

Steven Hunter

After completing his bachelor's degree at Auburn University, Steve
joined IBM in March 1984 where he was involved with the hardware and
software development of networking products.  Simultaneously, Steve began
working on his Master's degree at North Carolina State University, which
was focused on networking architecture and technology and was completed
in 1988.  In 1991, Steve moved into a development area to focus on the
architecture and design of network routing products and technology.  In
this position, Steve had responsibilities in both hardware and software
with emphasis on hardware architecture, networking protocols, and fault
tolerance.  Steve began working on his Ph.D. at Duke University in 1991
where his primary research interests were in the areas of high-speed
networking, distributed architectures, and fault tolerance. Steve
completed his Ph.D. in 1997.

Steve has most recently been a part of IBM's Systems x Group (previously
xSeries), where he has focused on server/network architecture and technology
as it applies to multiprocessor systems, interconnects, clustering,
autonomic computing, and high availability.  As part of this involvement,
Steve has been a contributor to IBM's Summit technology, the Infiniband
Architecture, the Software Rejuvenation technology and is one of the
original architects and designers for the IBM BladeCenter product. Steve
is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, a licensed as a Professional Engineer,
a Senior Member of the IEEE, an Adjunct Professor at North Carolina State
University, he holds patents spanning hardware and software, has published
numerous papers and has presented at a variety of conferences and symposiums.
