Topic: Avamar: Data De-Duplication Backup Technology
Presenter: Invited from EMC
Time: 7 pm Monday, February 11th, 2008
Location: UNC-TV at RTP
(Directions at the end of this email)

Brief:

Avamar is an advanced data backup tool that uses data de-duplication
technology to dramatically reduce the amount of data that leaves a
server or virtual machine before the backup process occurs.

The results of this source-based de-duplication approach to backup are
network bandwidth and backup target capacity reductions that can range
into the 100s-to-1 compared to traditional backup infrastructure
requirements. Nearly all operating systems and applications including
VMware, Windows, UNIX, Linux, UNIX, Apple, NAS, databases, email, etc
are supported.

The speaker from EMC will offer a technical brief of the Avamar product,
discuss Avamar's application in such environments as VMware and
remote office backups, and do a short demonstration of the
Avamar product.
