Penetration Testing for System Administrators

Understanding systems look to an attacker can help system administrators secure critical systems.  This presentation will discuss the methodology that penetration testers use to help discover and assess the security of systems.  Once the methodology has been covered there will be walkthroughs of some common penetration testing tasks.  All demonstrations will be done with freely available software and replicatable in your environment.


Bio:

Ryan Linn is an Information Security Engineer at SAS Institute, a columnist for EthicalHacker.net and a presenter at a number of regional and national security conferences.  Ryan has contributed code to a number of open source security tools including Metasploit and Nikto and enjoys sharing knowledge and trying to make security topics more accessible.
