This is a direct perm position for an AIX Systems Administrator with some experience with LINUX. 
A Senior Systems Analyst within the Technical Services Group.  
This individual will work with a team responsible for Engineering Services.  
The systems layer infrastructure deployed by this team supports various clinical and business applications across organization in a environment of multiple systems layer platforms, including Windows, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris and LINUX(Redhat,SUSE) Servers with both VMWare and LPAR virtualizations and HP & IBM SAN.   
Responsibilities include evaluating, implementing and maintaining multiple IBM pSeries system configurations running AIX 5L(5.1,5.2,5.3). Additional responsibilities include requisite day-to-day activities such as monitoring, automation, performance tuning, security/patch update analysis and disaster recovery preparedness. 

 


Essential tasks/responsibilities:

·         


Support day-to-day systems management and monitoring of the organization's systems layers, specifically focusing on the AIX and Linux environments.

·         


Manual and automated operating systems installation & configuration of IBM pSeries servers running various versions of AIX in a multi-LPAR environment, including LPAR configuration and sizing, dynamic sizing of LPARs, resource allocation with thresholds, etc.  
Deploy and enhance standard server systems best practices.

·         


Disk and volume management experience, including IBM LVM on local disk and SAN based storage. 

·         


Device management, including adding, changing, and configuring physical and logical devices (including hot-plugs).  
Disk path management, including MPIO, AntemetA, SAN based storage.

·         


Interact with Oracle DBAs to implement/support Oracle DB servers running on IBM AIX.

·         


Shell programming and use of automated scripting packages (KSH, Perl, etc) for system administration and software installation, management.  


·         


Installation, configuration, and management of TCP/IP protocol stack on various versions of AIX, including LPAR and DLPAR configurations, including configuration and management of all network communication services (NFS, DNS, etc) 

·         


Installation, configuration, and management of LDAP and Kerberos authentication on AIX systems integrating with Microsoft Active Directories, including local security configuration and account privileges design and interoperability.

·         


Familiarity with application installation on AIX systems, including Oracle database(RAC,non-RAC) 

·         


Manage and enhance systems management tools and procedures, with a specific focus of leveraging the company Tivoli Framework.

·         


Take part in Evaluations, Proposals and Implementations of new technology that correlates with company business goals.  
Will collaboratively work with support teams/vendors toward project milestones.

·         


Follow development and implementation procedures, including the development and execution of test plans, change control, development of system documentation. Ensure high quality by participating in and following company and industry best practices processes.

·         


Monitor AIX environments to ensure that access is appropriate and report unauthorized access or attempts to management.

·         


Responsible for monitoring of processes, system triage and recovery, providing advanced technical consultation on design and engineering solutions, supporting system implementations and integrations, systems analysis and diagnosis, trouble-shooting, performance analysis and resolution as well as technical leadership/mentorship to peers, build, plan team members, and management supporting company.

·         


Participation in an on-call rotation that provides 24x7x365 coverage of mission critical systems.

 


Education/training


Required:              

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, math, or a computer related field


Preferred:             

Professional technical training in Linux (RedHat and Suse), VMWare, IBM AIX 5L, IBM LPAR


 


 

Experience

Required:              
Thorough understanding of IBM pSeries servers running various versions of AIX operating system with multiple critical applications.  


                                
Minimum five years experience working on AIX platforms in medium / large organizations having segregated development/test, QA, Staging and production environments. 

                
Preferred:             
Experience with LINUX Server Systems such as Redhat and SUSE.

                                                
Experience with VMWare Server Systems.

                                                
Experience with SAN technology, IBM, HP EVA preferred.

Experience with Microsoft Active Directory Technology a plus.

 

Special competencies/credentials

Required:              
General AIX system administration and troubleshooting skills, including patch management, process management, command line utilities, etc 

Strong analytical/troubleshooting and organizational skills, capable of resolving software and hardware issues on the IBM pSeries platform configured with multiple LPARs(utilizing VIO) and versions of the AIX operating system. 

The ability to understand business goals and translate into technology requirements 

Demonstrated capacity for day-to-day, hands-on management and administration of server environments.

Excellent verbal, presentation and written communications skills. Ability to communicate with technical, non-technical, and senior management audiences.

Customer and results focused. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

 

Preferred:             
IBM Certified Systems Expert * AIX 5L (would be a plus)

NIM environment experience a plus.

Experience within a large health system.
