Internal and External Description: 
UNIX System Administrator



 

5 contract positions with 2 having the possibility of converting to perm. 


 





Primary Purpose: 
Under light to moderate supervision, the UNIX System Administrator will provide UNIX and Linux system software support.




 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other Duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below.  
Specific activities may change from time to time. 


1.  
Ability to architect and engineer UNIX system solutions.


2.  
I
nstall, configure, and maintain UNIX and Linux operating systems and system software, and provide hardware, backup and recovery, system monitoring, application, disaster recovery, and security support.  
Additional responsibilities include system availability and performance management, and capacity planning assistance.


3.  
Evaluate and recommend new software products for use by the department.


4.  
Assist with security management and regulatory compliance.


5.  
Utilize system management tools for system administration.


 


Required Skills and Competencies: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

1.  
Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science or related field and four years relevant experience or eight years experience in Information Technology.


2.  
Proficient in UNIX system administration and script languages.


3.  
Sufficient educational background and experience to work on all phases of operating systems software.



 


Special Skills Required:


1.  
IBM / AIX (5 years).


2.  
Sun / Solaris (3 years).


3.  
Red Hat Linux (1 year).


4.  
Great attitude, communication, and customer service/people skills.


5.  
Good work ethic, planning, organizational, and problem solving skills.


6.  
Dependable, responsible, and willing to take the initiative.


7.  
Solutions and results orientation.


8.  
Experience with Opsware SAS, Tripwire, Centrify Direct Control, Python, and Perl is a plus.
