GPI/CARQUEST corporate office, located in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a Sr. Unix System Administrator who will report to the Manager – IT Infrastructure.
Under minimum supervision this position will be responsible for designing,
configuring, installing, and maintaining AIX, Linux, and Solaris server
hardware and operating systems in a heterogeneous environment. This
position requires a high level of technical abilities to support
corporate data centers and engineering initiatives. The Administrator will provide AIX and/or Linux support and be responsible for daily
system maintenance tasks. Position requires a mixture of architecture,
engineering, and support of multiple UNIX technologies.
Essential Functions:
* Provides ongoing efforts for system management, monitoring, and planning across
enterprise. Serves as point of escalation and review for issues or
concerns identified.
* Performs life-cycle planning for systems by reviewing historical performance and projecting future needs from
production implementation through system retirement. Performs trade-off analysis to support recommendations concerning upgrades and
replacements.
* Identifies and implements opportunities for
improved system utilization through effective management and
consolidation strategies.
* Identifies implementation-specific
methods, controls and quality assurance criteria that must be met when
systems are migrated into the production environment.
* Coordinates the implementation of approved changes to the server environment
* Research and recommend innovative automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Education Level:
* Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience
Work, Skills & Abilities Required:
* 4 - 6 Years
* A UNIX Administrator with at least five years of professional experience capable of independent administration of infrastructure.
* Experience working with SAN technologies
* Familiarity with IBM pSeries, Sun and Intel hardware. Ability to install new servers, add or remove disks, cards, and memory.
* Experience capacity planning, tuning systems and network resources.
* A solid understanding of the target operating system. Understand system
resource management (i.e. paging and swapping), inter-process
communications, device management, hardware/OS interface, and file
system concepts. Can use performance analysis to tune systems.
* Knowledgeable about all aspects of systems administration. For example,
configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration,
printing systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party
software.
* Exceptional problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
* Strong inter-personal and communication skills. Should be comfortable making
presentations to customer, client audiences, or professional peers while working closely with management.
* Strong scripting abilities
Work, Skills & Abilities Preferred:
* RHCE Certified
* Expertise in AIX Volume Management (LVM) and integration with enterprise
storage. All aspects of AIX builds utilizing NIM, upgrades, hot disk
replacement, including 5.3 up through version 6.1.
* Previous experience with HACMP clustering, failover/recovery and load balancing strategies desired.
