This is exactly how I set up my laptop... Ubuntu alternate
(text-based) installer, and set up LUKS first, then LVM.

The blog post covers how I changed my EeePC from a
normal non-encrypted install to one that uses LUKS (but
not LVM).

Sorry to mix my advice and blog posts with LVM and LUKS
tutorials in the same place... but to me, they are very
closely related.
