[Trilug-ontopic] Python modules and the Raspberry Pi

I'm transitioning from from perl to Python and I'm still on the front-end
of the learning curve but I'm getting there.  After much reading regarding
Python modules I've determined there are two camps: 1) always compile from
source and 2) use some kind of specific Python module package manager like
Pip.

Which route do you go and why?  Also if you use a package manger which one
do you use?
