Plextor has an AWESOME 12x and 16x IDE both under $250.00. You just have to
remove IDE/ATAPI CDROM support, and turn on SCSI EMULATION, and SCSI GENERIC
SUPPORT, and vala! awesome burner with BURN technology which will eliminate
Buffer underruns. I use one at work to burn MANY CD's under Linux. I haven't
created ONE coaster in 8 months since I got my 12x.

Subject: [TriLUG] cheap, new cdr drive
Hey all,
I've got an old HP surestore 7100 (yamaha) (circa 97). I've burnt data
cds under linux with only a mild headache and well, I'm sick of the
thing and thinking of getting a new one.
Whats a good, cheap, reasonably fast drive that will work under linux
(with as little hoop jumping as possible)? Looking for a model that
someone has had specific experience with (and is relatively new).
Thanks,
Andy
