i'm hoping someone here has messed enough with open office to
give me some advice.

i downloaded open office for the first time, and tried to install
it, but open office is adamant that it needs a java runtime
environment. fair enough, i wander over to sun.com and get the
latest (admittedly, beta) JRE for linux, bring back the rpm and
install it, at which point it happily plants itself in /usr/java.
so far, so good.

go back to open office and ... nothing. the install continues
to insist that there is no JRE on the machine that it can see, even
when i use the browse dialog and rub its nose in the /usr/java
directory.

  any hints?
