[TriLUG] Switching desktops

I have the Mandrake 8.0 distribution installed on my system and am currently 
running KDE 2.1.1.

I am a Java developer, and have had some annoying problems with Java GUIs 
running on my system. More than one colleague has suggested I switch to 
Gnome, that Java + KDE is not a particularly good match and could well 
account for my woes.

I have downloaded and installed Gnome from Ximian, but what I don't know how 
to do is reconfigure my system so that it gives me the Gnome desktop instead 
of KDE. Oddly enough, the KDE configuration tool seems to leave that option 
out ;-)

Can someone point me in the right direction so I can run Gnome?
