Forgetting the FSF essay, I've been thinking for awhile that the Free
Software and Open Source movements have put too many eggs in one basket.
Also, SF.net is a big slow juggernaut that doesn't react well to the needs
of the development community in terms of change. I think that if we were
hosting a small subset of free software development within our own
infrastructure, we'd be more likely to (for example) ditch the internal bug
tracking system in favor of something more robust perhaps than VA would be
with SF.net.

What happens to our community if SF.net becomes the victim of a prolonged
DDoS attack? Or VA dries up and blows away, leaving the site dead? It is a
very scary thing, how much faith we've put in VA to be good stewards of the
crowned jewels of our community.

I think it is well within our charter to promote the free software community
locally by providing local developers and TriLUG members with an alternative
to Source Forge, and perhaps we can serve them better by being able to
tailor suit services a little better to help the project flow.
