I've been happy with Xine and/or Mplayer. You can get Xine from
http://www.freshrpms.net/ with decss enabled, and mplayer if at
http://www.mplayerhq.hu - and mplayer will allow you to use some
Windows dlls to get it's codexes!

Both read DVDs, bot will play back divX files. I've had better luck
with mplayer recently.
