Depends on the distro and the type of Alpha.

Or Debian testing. I've been using that on my multia at
home. fatalpha.trilug.org is a DS10, and uses Red Hat Linux 6.2 (with patches)

Depending on the distro & system, yes. For debian, you can follow their
instructions for just about any alpha no problem. With Red Hat, there
are different instructions based on system type.

If the systems in question use the EV5 (or higher) processors, I think
you can use RedHat 7.1 with few issues. 

Are there any other good Alpha distros? Red Hat and Debian are about
all I know of.
