I upgraded from 2.4.9 to 2.4.17 last night and I can tell a positive
difference. Real Video no longer skips, no matter what I am doing, and
it doesn't seem to lock my machine anymore, which it used to do abuot
20% of the time. Native sound for my via chip also seems improved. I
used to need esd to get decent sound out of xmms, but I don't
anymore.

It should be noted that I also intalled the preemption patch, which is
likely responsible for some of these improvements.

I'm also very interested in the VM improvements,
but I probably won't see that much unless I upgrade at work.

Anyway, I recommend the upgrade for adventurous people with a kernel as
old as mine.
