[TriLUG] unmounting cdrom

I sometime have problem unmounting my CD.

Computer tells me that the CD is busy.
I don't see the busy light on the CD-ROM.
I am not in the /mnt directory when I try to unmount.
I use 'fuser -v /mnt/cdrom' to find the PID.
The PID for the CD-ROM is: kernel

How can I unmount CD-ROM without shutdown. 
Why is kernel busy reading my CD(if that is true). 
Why the PID is not a number?
