Yep I did that and got the same error. That was something I was missing
before yesterday.

I believe you need to create an initrd for your new kernel:

cd /usr/src/linux
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-version.number-extensions.img
version.number-extensions
Example:
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.16-rv1.img 2.4.16-rv1

I believe someone (Rob?) wrote a nice mini how-to on this. I learned it
quickly and it's worked for me eversince. Can someone post where this how-to
is?

Subject: [TriLUG] HELP!

I've compiled a new kernel, set up my lilo.conf file, ran lilo ...

When I boot the machine I get the following error:

> mount: error 19 mounting ext 3
> pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) fail 2
> freeing unused kernel memory: 228k freed
> kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

I suspect that since it started with mount: error 19 issue that that is the
root cause, but I don't know how to correct it.

Please help on this.

- Andy
