On Tue, 5 Feb 2002, M. Mueller (bhu5nji) posted the following:

MMb>I just tried KPilot. No luck.
MMb>
MMb>I have a working Palm IIIx, serial cradle, serial to USB adapter, USB port on
MMb>laptop. System worked on Windows ME and Palm software.
MMb>
MMb>Linux laptop sees USB serial portt when the adapter is plugged int. I chmod
MMb>666 on /dev/ttyUSB0 and the underlying /dev/bus/usb/tts/0. I configured
MMb>KPilot with both port descriptors.
MMb>
MMb>The Hot Sync button on the cradle brought up KPilot a couple of times but the
MMb>Pilot complained about a broken link. KPIlot alerted me to the difference in
MMb>Pilot user names, so there was at least some coherent data exchange. The
MMb>machine locked up twice in several tries as well.
MMb>
MMb>SHould I move on to jpilot? Will that work better? It's not loaded on my
MMb>machine. Has else anyone tried to use a serial to USB adapter?

You have to get the cvs version of pilot-link to make the usb thingy
work. David Desrosiers (pilot-link's author) hangs out on the jpilot
list so I've seen that one asked and answered a few times.
