[TriLUG] sound card problems

Which kernel? I have the same sound card and I'm running RHL 7.2 with
2.4.16. The sound drivers can be made with the kernel. After I compiled my
kernel I had to reset my aliases. I used RH's sndconfig utility and it
worked fine.

Are you dual booting? If so, power down, not restart. For some reason, the
windoze drivers don't release. You need to flush the hardware with a
cold(hard) boot.

After installing a newer kernel on my Suse 7.1 system, I am unable to
make the sound card work again. I even went back to the old kernel and
it still won't work. Here's the output from /var/log/messages:

I tried using alsaconfig and it has trouble too.
After detecting the sound card correctly, it asks if it should write to
/etc/modules.conf.
I say ok, then it says it will prepare the card for playing.
Here are the errors from that:Loading driver:

The ALSA sound driver was not detected in this system.
Could not initialize the mixer, the card was probably
not detected correctly.

I would appreciate any tips on how to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks,
Barry
