[TriLUG] Moving from qpopper to RH imap/pop3d

I've been running a hacked version of Qpopper for years, and
now I'm finally trying to move to the pop3d supported by Red Hat.
Unfortunately, the latter is having trouble authenticating me.

>From a session with Qpopper as the server:

+OK QPOP (version n.n.n) at Example.Com starting.
USER foo
+OK Password required for foo.
PASS nevermind
+OK foo has 3482 visible messages (0 hidden) in 68381723 octets.
QUIT
+OK Pop server at Example.Com signing off.

But repeating the same sequence with RH's pop3d as the server
(from the imap-2000c RPM):

+OK POP3 localhost v2000.70rh server ready
USER foo
+OK User name accepted, password please
PASS nevermind
-ERR Bad login
QUIT
+OK Sayonara

The exact same username and password. One likes it, the other
does not. And nothing I've found on the Web in about four hours
of searching has identified anything.

Anyone have any ideas on this one? Help!

TIA..
