I've installed and run both Debian (from 12 floppies) and NetBSD on my Alpha Multia.

Right now I'm fighting to get OpenBSD to boot on its own.

As Jon said, pita is the name of the game.

Slackware has also got a working Alpha port underway, but it's relatively recent
and may not be as polished as other ports.

Feel free to contact me if you find SRM to be the root of all evil.
