Hello

Yeah, I was going to say that as well.  I think its passed to the open
socket call.  ie PF_INET, PF_IPX, PF_NETLINK, etc.

It specifies the network familly that the interface is
being brought up for ( 'inet' is ipv4, you could also
in principle use 'ipx' for ipx or 'inet6' for IPv6.
