[TriLUG] Sony Laptop/USB problems w/ RH 7.3

Hi All,

I recently installed RedHat 7.3 on my laptop, a Sony Vaio PCG FX220,
(which has two built-in usb ports) but I can't get my external usb
keyboard or mouse to work.

The keyboard & mouse work just fine under debian unstable (and WinME),
which are also installed on the same machine.

What appears to be the main difference between debian and RH
installations is that RH uses xfree86 v4.2, whereas debian uses
v4.1. But that shouldn't be the problem.

I've loaded the same modules when running RH as when runnning debian,
but still get nothing. I've also tried using the debian XF86Config-4
file. The keyboard does work at the lilo screen, though.

Neither device shows up via 'lsusb' or /proc/bus/usb/devices, but the
hubs (ports) are recognized. (FWIW, /proc/bus/usb/ is empty when
running debian.)

I'm a complete redhat newbie, so I may be missing something
obvious. Yeah, I know, RTFM. And I did. The USB-guide at linux-usb.org
didn't do it for me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark
