Ok, two more things to try:

 1) try using the other port (/dev/ttyS1) since the "IRQ 0" entry 
    reported by setserial *is* odd.

 2) If you're really motivated to see whats happening, you can get 
    a serial port debugger from:

      http://sourceforge.net/projects/ssnooper

    that will help you determine exactly what is/isn't being sent 
    on that port.  I'll be more than happy to help you with that 
    program.
