Actually, there were x86 machines running MacOS. In
the early 90's, Apple teamed up with Intel on a secret
project called "Star Trek" whose goal was to port
MacOS to x86. They were actually successful in getting
MacOS to run on an x86 machine. Unfortunately Apple
pulled the plug on the project due to their usual bad
marketing strategies, budget crunches, and the Star
Trek project manager quitting Apple and joining
Microsoft.
