[TriLUG] Frustrated MS users turn to Linux, Apple

I remember that the apps they were using were VERY image intensive.

For apps like that, in my limited experience, I would say it would
be impractical to take them to a web-based system. However,
a thin multiplatform GUI (think using the QT toolset, or even Java)
interfacing with whatever backend you need should fit the role nicely.
If I remember, the image format was not straightforward (some healthcare
imaging format) as well, so you'd need to find some kind of 3rd-party
API library there as well, unless you wanted to roll your own in house, lol.
:)

But I do agree with John that a lot of other apps (especially the more
form-entry, data driven stuff) can easily be converted to a web-based
setup.

Just got ADSL up over here, PPPoE, yay! Now I just need to find/write
a script that can get the IP changes from this Dlink router and update
hn.org
with them and I'll be set. (Although the thing does send out SNMP messages I
think
so I might be able to parse those.)
