Doesn't microwave still have the issue of having some kind of dish or
transmitter or something that would need to be outside the building?

It sounds like the issue is not necessarily a technological one so much
as having something that can connect the two buildings without exposed
gear since it's a historical area and is supposed to retain the "period"
look.
