The issue is the desktop integration
The apps will run just fine under either desktop.

If you have a friend w/ a SUSE distro, check it out.
They have a desktop option with both gnome & kde 
desktops running simultaneously, but you have to 
stick with the K window manager, because it's integral
to KDE, whereas gnome doesn't care which wm runs.
