I use a ATen MiniView switching between Linux and Windows 2000 and have not
had any problems. I also have a Cybex SwitchView 4 port with no problems
either.

One thing that might help with the autosyncing with the monitor is if
you make sure you are only using resolutions + refresh rates that are
preset in the monitor (sometimes refereed to as the
guaranteed/recommended resolutions + refreshrate).

This might not be an option if you like to push the res or refresh to
the limits, but might be a place to look. I know that I have one 17" at
home that "can" run at 1154x864x75hz but they only recommend
1024x768x75hz. The higher res works fine, but when ever I used to
switch systems using a KVM or setting up other systems, I always had to
mess with my monitors settings. If I stuck with their recommended it
always behaved nicely. Since I wanted the convience of highres+high
refresh, I bought a better monitor :-).
