As someone who's using KDE on the future 8.0, I can say that I don't see
any "crippling" of the environment.  "crippleware" is a pretty strong
statement, and at least from my end-user perspective, I don't see anything
to back that up.  I don't think if the desktop was "crippled" I could use
it for my day-to-day work.
