FWIW, no package management system is going to work well if you're
constantly doing things outside of it.  If you'd rather have that
kind of system (fetch/configure/compile/install), IMHO you're better
off using a BSD/ports kinda approach, but that could be me... I'm sure
some slackware people will come out of the woodwork to pimp it ;)
