Leave it to you guys to be talkative a day that I'm gone!

Mark's right on this one at least from my experience. You don't have to
do any modem configuration on your end. I have several machines (Linux
and Win) hooked up to a router then the cable modem. When you sign up
for the self-install stuff they just log your cable modem information to
add to their system - that allows you to connect.

Ben has been one of the most helpful on this list especially with
Debian-specific questions. I have not had any real negative dealings
with RR. Yes I (like others) were frustrated with DNS/Email/Connectivity
issues, but knowing that people like Ben were working on them made me
feel a lot better. I don't know everything that they have to deal with
being as big as they are (and I missed that presentation!) so I try to
be patient when problems do arise. As a matter of fact, last week my
cable went out. I called TWC and within an hour I had a tech out here
and it was fixed. I wouldn't expect their helpdesk to help me solve
Linux-problems though - that's what you guys are for :)

So back to the original poster (Alan?) if you are having problems
getting your Linux box on the network, try asking questions here to make
sure that everything's setup correctly on your computer (there's a ton
that I learned from *that* experience!). After that, then you ask RR for
modem specific help.
