On my laptop, I originally had an external PS/2 wheel mouse. Problem
was that I needed Emulate3Buttons on the touchpad, since it only had two
buttons, but that disabled use of the wheel mouse's middle button. So I
just got a USB Logitech wheel mouse for $15 at CompUSA. The default X
configuration for RHL 8 configures both a PS/2 mouse (in my case, the
touchpad), AND a USB mouse.[1] This way, I can use the USB external
mouse and the internal touchpad interchangeably at any time. Pretty
nifty.

Also, I highly recommend the optical mice for use with laptops -- no
need to carry around a mousepad; they work fine on almost any surface.

[1] Thanks to Jeremy Katz for pointing out that both the PS/2 mouse and
USB are simultaneously configured in RHL 8.
