Well, primarily it's because there isn't any more room in any of
the 3 current machines.  While we have room for more scsi disks
because of the nice scsi tower rti donated (thanks roy!) the hard
disk we have for this job is IDE and won't go there.  There's
also the fact that by making it another machine, we can
further isolate it from anything that might go wrong with the
main machine.  We can also put it on only the private network
so it's not accessible from the internet and is less at risk
of being hacked.

What you suggest would work, though, if we had room.  That's
pretty much what I plan on doing at home when I get around to
replacing my dead drive (/me observes a moment of silence for
his dead drive).
