[TriLUG] [OT] Setting up a home wireless network

Thanks to all who responded to this - it now works flawlessly.

For the record: the Belkin WAP I bought (it's just a WAP, no hub, switch,
or router included) must be set up using a proprietary Windows app that
contacts it through a wireless card. I see this as a Bad Thing (tm) but
was willing to bracket that to get the network working.

I configured it as the directions said - no problems there.

The directions, though, say that the user should "be sure" to set clients
to get their addresses from the WAP via DHCP, and that's where I went
wrong (I followed their directions). The WAP issued bizarre 162.x.x.x
addresses that, of course, didn't work on my home network. Just issuing
the laptop a static IP (192.168.0.x), netmask, and gateway did the trick.
