not so quick answer:

postfix is great for the MTA part, but you'll still need a way to 
deliver the mail to the clients (pop or imap).  the stock pop/imap 
daemon is easy and works well but is largely unconfigurable, so if it 
doesn't work exactly the way you want (if you have special 
configuration or security requirements) you'll have to find another 
option for that portion of the job.  as the standard pop/imap daemon 
works well enough for me i can't give you any specific recommendations 
for alternatives.
