it records dd5.1 also. The box looks like it record the mpg stream off of the digital stream. When pausing, the stills are dvd clear. On the analog channels the stills have mpeg artifacts. The DD5.1 sound stream is present on playback, even. I'm very impressed -- may not be as advanced as tivo, but it's heck of alot cheaper. -- b²
