Position Title: System Administrator

Position Description:

As a member of the Red Hat Information Systems team, you will be
responsible for maintaining the production/externally facing servers
providing www, ftp, and RHN related services. You will work with other
groups as new projects necessitate the need for computing environments
and assist them in determining optimum specifications for computer
systems to meet their needs. You will be responsible for building out
new environments, as well as the ongoing maintenance of both new and
existing environments.

As a member of IS, you will be required to carry a pager and/or cell
phone at all times. Additionally, within reason you will be expected
to participate in maintenance work which is generally scheduled for
the second Friday evening of every month from 9pm until 3am.

Qualified candidates must be able to receive general instructions for
new responsibilities from a technical lead and accomplish the given
tasks with a minimum amount of supervision, diagnose and fix problems
in a complex server farm environment both individually and as part of
a team, display initiative in taking on new responsibilities, and
helps with planning for the future of the site/network. Team members
are responsible for evaluating and/or recommend infrastructure
upgrades to ensure future smooth operation of the sites.

Position Requirements:

A B.S. in Computer Science or 5 years sysadmin experience. Strong
interpersonal and communication skills; the ability and willingness to
write purchase justifications, training users in complex topics,
making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting
positively with upper management. Independent, problem-solving,
self-direction.

Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for
example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and
configuration, solid understanding of package management (RPM), and an
understanding of host based security mechanisms.

Have a solid understanding of a the Red Hat Linux operating system;
understanding issues surrounding performance tuning in a high load
server environment, inter-process communication, devices and what
device drivers do, filesystem concepts.

Have a background with Oracle databases, Network Appliance Filers,
familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing
environment concepts; can configure NFS, NIS, DNS, PAM, apache, SNMP,
and kerberos; understand basic routing concepts.

Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, or
shell). Ability to do minimal debugging and modification of C, python,
and perl programs.  Special Job Conditions:

Ability to lift server machines - approximately 20-30 pounds.
