I tried over the years several times to split up the list into smaller 
lists and was met with great resistance.  Several other lists have come 
and gone due to lack of interest.

BSD questions are on topic though.  It's not even a stretch.  OS X is 
on topic if you're talking about the stuff that is in Darwin (which is 
Open Source) but the strictly Aqua bits are proprietary (yet seem to be 
tolerated).

Anyway, there are a very few people who are vocal about what is on or 
off topic, and in doing so they generate far more traffic than what 
they're complaining about in the first place.  The rest of us, I 
suspect, like the list the way it is and for what it is (something much 
greater than just strictly Linux discussion).
