May I suggest WxWindows. It's open source, C++, cross platform including 
Windows/Unix/Mac,
uses a single API across all platforms and you will get easy to 
impliment streams, clipboard and drag
and drop, multithreading and online help (Among other things...). It's 
been around for 10 years and
is mature, so there won't be any surprises.  Also, the support network 
(Mailing lists and such) are
extemely active (I've never not been able to get an answer for 
questions/problems really fast).

I use it and like it a lot. Further, I also use the perl and python 
bindings for it when I need a quick,
