I use an IBM SmartDrive, 32MB. Works just fine for me after some fiddling,
which I described for all the world here:

unless the key is defective basic read/write should work on all units (crypto stuff is a turkey shoot but....)

basically if you have usb mass storage and devfs support the drive should just take sd*+1 (* being the highest 
drive  present)
