No, no, no!  Mandrake already comes with alsa (and the 0.9.0
alsa, not the older 0.4..).  Just try something like

urpmi alsa-utils

That will install the alsa utilities *and* all the dependencies.
You'll still need to setup your modules.conf (draksound will
do this for you), but alsa works fine with Mandrake.
