Ah! I see now.  Ok, to answer your questions... If you have the printer
connected to your linux box you need the samba server running.  It should
pick up the defined printer and automatically share it with the
default configuration.  If you have the printer connected to your XP box,
you don't need the samba server, but you do need the samba-client rpm
installed.   You then setup cups to print to the XP box.

Either way should work as you expect it.
