Hi Brian, welcome to NC. :-) (Sorry about the football game this
past weekend. ;-)

urpmi from the command line needs to have it's package list updated
manually.  If you run MandrakeUpdate, the graphical client, it will
update the update media package list automatically.  To update urpmi's
package list, I generally use this command:

urpmi.update -a

That will update all package lists.  If you only want to update
your update media package lists, substitute the name of the media
you want to update instead of "-a".

Note, btw, that the urpmi database is completely separate from the
rpm database, which as Sinner said, is the database of installed
packages.  The urpmi database is everything that urpmi can install
(but isn't necessarily installed yet).  So, none of the plain
rpm commands do anything with the urpmi database.
