[TriLUG] HD Diags

Whitebox, I recently put it together with parts I had laying around. I
know how to fix it, check/replace the cable and if I keep getting errors
replace the HD and reinstall Debian. Also, I didn't have a spare FD for
the system and most vendors require one to to run diags.

Here's what's really bugging me. Years ago, during the BBS days, I
downloaded a vendor diag disk. It was really cool as it ran on (almost)
any IDE hard drive, and reported alot of information, including CRC
errors which generally go unnoticed. I foolishly assumed that that
program would be available forever and lost track of the boot disk I had
made. Now the diags for most companies are very generic, some times
even either everything is OK or call customer service. I was hoping
that there was something in Linux that would be similar to that old diag
program.
