Rather than piping know spam to dev null, you can harvest the ip addys.
I have code (some assembly required) on 
http://www.skink.net/~davis/progs/c/spam2 that will
show you how to do it.  Once you get enough of these ips in your
firewall, the amount of spam you receive will drop off tremendously.

You can also select files from your reader and save them to a folder
for parsing.  ie. if it slips past your firewall, slips past your
spam assassin, you save it for harvesting later.
