Mepis looks interesting.  I don't have the $9.95 or time now, though.

Even if processor is compatible, motherboards could contain any of a number
of chips to make it hiccup.

Fortunately, the os the customer uses *does* function best my eyes can tell.
So, I'm returning the unit to service tomorrow.
