[TriLUG] Making the console beep "better"

This is for the gnome folks out there, since KDE already catches the 
beep signals and actually plays a sound.

I use irssi & screen for IRC and instant messaging, and I would miss the 
console flash, and found the system beep annoying. I found  softbeep 
(http://www.stud.uni-hamburg.de/users/lennart/projects/softbeep/) and 
its been useful, so I can control irsii beeps, as well as other system 
sounds, which I want to hear, but don't want the grating BEL sound.
