Thank you for forwarding this to me, Len. I can offer some personal recommendations, and provide some linkage with the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) chapter. 

The best preparation for the CISSP is the course offered by ISC2. It is precise in scope, and accurately covers the material that the exam will most likely contain. It's expensive, but it works. 

I also used several text books as references during preparation. The All-In-One CISSP Certification by Shon Harris is very good, but it's not the one that I refer to to answer questions that arise. The CISSP Prep Guide by Ron Krutz and Russell Vines is also very good, and has proven to be a useful desk reference long after the examination. The Information Security Handbooks, edited by Tipton and Krause, were not as useful for exam preparation, but are excellent references if the topic you need help with is specifically covered in their table of contents. 

I'd like to also mention that the Raleigh Chapter of the ISSA is a good place to bounce some of these types of questions. We have an active chapter of about 60 Information Security specialists, many of whom are CISSPs. We also have a mailing list for non-members that you may use to correspond with about 120 members and non-members - announcements at issa-raleigh.mailinglists.org. If you are starting a study group, that would be a great place to generate some interest.
