I've got a Fed Core 1 box printing to a printer connected to a Windows
box over SMB.  I used redhat-config-printer to set it up.  I realize
that is converse to what you're trying to do, but it can't be that
bad!

Take one step at a time.  If CUPS works on the box itself you can
eliminate it from your troubleshooting queue.  So, get the printer
working on the machine it's connected to, then work on the SAMBA part.
